Chef Brian Joins Taher Team!

Taher Inc., who manages your Food Service Program, has a local Foodservice Team of Professionals who work to provide The Oconomowoc Area School District with its meal program.  Recently Chef Brian Shoemake, formerly Executive Chef of Pewaukee restaurant Piano Blu,  has joined the local Taher team and assists with creating new selections and training staff to prepare some of the new made-from-scratch items on the menu.  Before working at Piano Blu, Brian gained culinary experiences at Delafield's Prickly Pear, The Pines at Bristlecone, and a Weissgerber restaurant.  He is a graduate with an Associates Degree in Culinary Management from WCTC.  Chef Brian's creative talents have also been put to use by working with the Food Network in October 2007 to launch Kohl's Department Stores Food Network Cooking Supplies, as well as published work in Wisconsin Community Treasures and A Taste of Home magazine.  He also made a TV appearance on WTMJ's Morning Brunch segment.

Currently, Brian serves a special menu for students and staff to enjoy at Oconomowoc High school.  He also makes monthly trips to both Intermediate schools.

CHANGES IN HIGH SCHOOL CASH SALES

In the past, we made change in the line for every student who wanted to use cash to pay for lunch daily.  This system dramatically slows down the lunch lines and results in longer wait times for all students.  To remedy this problem,  we will no longer make change in the line in 2008-09.  You may still pay with cash or check, but the cash should be deposited in our deposit envelopes in the school office.  Deposits left by 8:00am will be credited to the family account before lunch.

Making Online Payments

Go to the school district website at oasd.k12.wi.us.

Under "Frequently Used Links on the left side, click "Lunch Menu/Balance "

Click "Make a Payment Online"

E~funds for schools is a third party website separate from the school district and lunch program.  The first time you access this page, you will need to create your own user name and password and use these whenever you access this website.

Click "Register"

Enter Name address, phone number, and email address where payment confirmations should be sent.

Select payment from checking, savings or credit card. If you decide to make deposits from your checking account (using a routing number) they will be made free of charge. If you use a credit or debit card, you will be charged 1.99% of the amount of the transaction as a fee.  This fee is charged by e~funds for schools, not the district or the lunch program.

You will need a FAMILY ID Number in order to bring up your students names.  This is not the same as your student lunch number.  If you do not know your family number, call us at 560-2146 or email brenda.klamert@oasd.k12.wi.us.

Taher Inc. to Remove Trans Fats from School Lunches

Taher Inc., who manages your Food Service Program, has announced that the company has begun converting to trans-fat-free products.  The first phase which began in January, eliminated trans fats from frying oil and purchased potato products.  As more manufacturers begin offering zero trans fat alternatives, we will continue to make the switch to healthier ingredients.   We will also be adjusting recipes and replacing processed items with more scratch cooking, to meet our goal of eliminating all trans fats by the fall of 2008.

Eliminating trans fats is only the first step in an ongoing commitment we have made to help our customers establish and maintain lifelong healthy eating habits.   Read the Food 4 Life belief statement below, and visit our nutrition page to learn more about our initiative.

Taher Inc. recognizes foods and eating habits have changed, and we are concerned about their impact to our customers and the future of our children.  As mindful stewards, we are committed to the health, wellness, and responsible eating habits of our customers, 4 Life.  With the leadership of our chef council and nutrition & wellness department, we will incorporate products and recipes that use fresh, high quality wholesome foods.  We pledge to stay on the leading edge of this charge, now and 4 Life.

Lunch Cashier System

We have upgraded the Wordware Computerized Lunch Ticket System to provide more convenience to parents and the best possible service to the students.

If you have visited the Payments page, you already know that parents now have the option of making payments into their family lunch account electronically, using their checking, saving, debit or credit card.  As more and more people switch to on line banking, we feel it is a logical step for the School Lunch Program.  We are excited about the level of convenience and accuracy that this new service provides the program.  Checks and payments can no longer be lost in transit, and deposits are confirmed via email.

We also have added the option of reviewing your family account statement on line, 24 hours a day.  Balances and purchases will be updated daily by 6 pm, so you can verify a payment was entered, or see what charges were posted to your account each day.  Paper statements can now be eliminated by sending us your email account information, saving the paper and time it takes to send over 2000 statements home each month. If the school district does not currently have your email information on file, please email to brenda.klamert@oasd.k12.wi.us.

The screen that our computer operators use will soon include a photo of the student, to provide an easy way to check that the student has entered their pin number correctly.  Each serving line will be networked, to speed up the time it takes to transfer data between buildings, allowing payments to be credited by the next school day.
